Mount Olivet Cemetery, Washington DC

Located in Northeast Washington DC, near busy Bladensburg Road, this catholic cemetery is my second favorite cemetery in DC.    The last two photographers were taken two years ago.

Fall at Rock Creek Cemetery, Washington DC

If you have read any of my earlier posts on this blog, you would know that Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington DC is the inspiration for my desire to shoot cemeteries and there amazing graves stones.   I went to Rock Creek Cemetery years ago to see the below famous "Adams Memorial" designed by the famous sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens.   On today's visit, a rose and the memorial was never looking better.  For more about the memorial and whose memory it was built for, check out this:

In 2008 Washington lost a great journalist Tim Russert.  I have been to cemetery a number of times since his death, but hadn't until today come across his grave.   Sunday mornings are still not the same without Tim Russert anchoring "Meet the Press"

This is one of my favorite graves.  It's called the Goff Memorial, and it's always like an old friend is greeting me back to my favorite cemetery.

This was sad to see.   I have photographed (below) this right after New Years, and got a lot of great responses to the photo on flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/dcscorpio/5316816483/)  the years hasn't been good for this statue, as you can see below.

Green-Wood Cemetery, Brooklyn NY Revisited

Last August (2010) I visited Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn for the first time.   This is an amazing and historic cemetery, and this past week while in New York I stayed a few blocks from the cemetery.   The leaves are just starting to turn, and once again I didn't see even half of the cemetery.  Guess I will have to return again next year!

On Wednesdays, Green-Wood Cemetery offers a guided trolley tour for 15 dollars.  That will be on my list to check out the next time I visit Green-Wood Cemetery.

A real pet cemetery in Maryland

Aspen Hill Memorial Park in Aspen Hill, Maryland is the final resting spot for thousands of local pets.    The cemetery dates back to the early 1920's.   Among the famous pets, "Petey" from the Little Rascals and J. Edgar Hoover's dog "Spee-de-Bozo" are said to be buried here.   There is also some humans buried at pet cemetery, they wished to be buried with their pet.  Over the past 20 years the cemetery has faced financial problems, and the volunteers now help to maintain this unique cemetery.

Katrina Memorial, New Orleans

Next to Cypress Grove Cemetery, is a unique final resting place for the "unclaimed and unidentified victims" of Hurricane Katrina from August, 2005.   Over 1,110 residents died, and this memorial was a great reminder of the huge image Katrina had and still has with the on going rebuilding efforts of 10,000 homes.

Lafayette Cemetery No. 1- New Orleans

Established in 1833, Lafayette Cemetery No. 1 in the Garden District, this popular tourist attraction is located just one block from St. Charles line of the streetcar line.  It was originally established for the city cemetery of Lafayette.  Over the past few decades, many tombs were vandalized or ruined, but the group "Save our Cemeteries" has worked hard to restore this very historic cemetery in New Orleans.
