New Blog Name

I decided to change the name, but don't worry I haven't abandoned my mission of visiting one cemetery in every state (and the District of Columbia).   The name change is to reflect the realization that I am and plan to shoot more than one cemetery in a state (especially states close to where I live).   With the warmer weather here, I hope to visit cemeteries in Delaware, New Jersey, Massachusetts for the 51 cemetery project!   I also hope to make a trip to New Orleans and Natchez, Mississippi sometime this summer!  Thanks for visiting the blog, and I will be creating a new email account for the blog soon!

Bronze Items Stolen From Rock Creek Cemetery...

Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington D.C. was reportedly a victim of a burglary. According to reports on various listservs a 11 foot bronze piece and other pieces were stolen from the cemetery in the past week or so. According to Rev. Rosemari Sullivan, this theft most likely took a number of people seeing when the bronze piece was installed it took a crane and six people. Anyone with information regarding this crime are urged to call DC Police at 202-726-2080.

If you have been a regular visitor to the blog you know that my love of photographing cemeteries started at Rock Creek Cemetery years ago. I hope they find these stolen pieces and are able to keep the cemetery open to the public.

Connecticut Cemetery by the Highway

This past weekend I was in Connecticut, and I passed this cemetery on Route 8 in the Valley. The next day I returned to explore St. James Catholic Cemetery in Naugatuck. Walking around the cemetery wasn't easy with the snow still on the ground. Spring can't come quick enough for my family and friends up north!

Happy New Year! Thanks for checking out this blog. This is year two of my project to photograph one cemetery in every U.S. state and District of Columbia. In year one I visited 11 states and District of Columbia. This year I hope to visit and photograph at least 10 more cemeteries. Please email me if you know of a cemetery I should visit. On this first weekend of the new year, I returned to where I began this project and the inspiration for this project, Rock Creek Cemetery in Washington D.C.

51 Cemeteries Project: # 40 St. Michael's Cemetery, Statford CT

Six months ago today, I unexpectedly lost my Mother. I grew up in Connecticut, and had not yet decided upon which cemetery to shoot for this project. My Mom's death made that decision easy (however it's one cemetery I wish I never had to shoot). My Mom was a big supporter of my photography endeavours, including this project. Her death has reminded me that with every simple or ornate tombstone I photograph, underneath it lies someones loved one. Rest in Peace Mom.
